Those are all the options you need for a decent eraser tool in a note-taking app. Auto-deselect automatically switches back to the tool you were using before the eraser. It has three fixed sizes, and it can also erase the highlighter only. The eraser in GoodNotes can erase per stroke and per pixel. You can straighten it out to look neat, and we love that we can now have more colours for it on the toolbar. The highlighter goes behind your ink, and it does not dim your notes when layered. It’s annoying and gives an overall unpleasant user experience in the app. Unlike before, we often have to rewrite a word because the app just deleted it. The only problem, though, is that the app keeps deleting some words that we write. It’s more pleasant to write in GoodNotes 6. It feels like the developers have dramatically improved the handwriting experience in the app. Somehow, writing in GoodNotes 6 seems the best it has ever been in the app (for all three pen tools). ![]() Tip sharpness for the fountain pen makes it more rounded or sharp. We’re not sure if this is a bug or if it’s affecting all the users. In GoodNotes 6, both the minimum and maximum pressure sensitivity options seem to have the same effect on the pen tools. The pressure sensitivity for fountain and brush pens is not as effective as it used to be. GoodNotes 6 still doesn’t have a favourites toolbar it’s shocking. We couldn’t be happier, especially because we now have a colour picker too. Though we are still limited to only three pen thicknesses on the toolbar, we can now accommodate twelve colours. You can customise your pen colour and thickness. GoodNotes has three types of pens: fountain, ballpoint, and brush. Hunting for digital stationery on Etsy while using a one-time purchase app feels like a smart choice to opt for. Unlike Notability, though, GoodNotes 6 hasn’t made its marketplace items free for subscription users. We also wondered how much they will copy, and they too went subscription with GoodNotes 6. When we first saw this, we thought GoodNotes was following in Notability’s footsteps, and they were. We can now get more page templates from the marketplace in the app. For page covers, though, it makes sense that they are not centralised because each cover is unique. Once they become more centralised, they’ll be more fun to use. The fun part about the colour options for both covers and page templates in GoodNotes 6 is that we can customise them. But the new page cover colour options have me feeling like I am missing out on something. I prefer not having covers for my notebooks, so I can preview their contents from the homepage. The developers should find a way to centralise these page and line colours for a better user experience. We are still hoping to save complete PDFs as page templates in GoodNotes because we are tired of importing our digital notebooks each time we want to use them in the app. The only problem is that you have to do that for each template in the app, which is simply too much for a digital workflow. You can now choose a background and line colour for your paper templates. Page colours are no longer limited to three. These can either be portrait or landscape. The app supports plenty of paper sizes, even custom ones. When creating a new notebook in GoodNotes 6, you have a lot of page templates to choose from. Samsung Notes: free (Samsung devices only).Nebo: $8.99 (Editor’s choice for handwriting-to-text conversion). At that price, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives on the market that you might want to consider. That’s probably enough to help you decide if you like the app enough to pay for it. GoodNotes 6 is free to try for new users, allowing you to create and edit up to three free notebooks. This review focuses on the iPad version of the app. You also get the option to pay a yearly subscription of $10 if you need to use it on Android and Windows. Since the GoodNotes 6 update, the app’s price has skyrocketed to $29.99, for all your devices (universal purchase). It is available on the iPad, iPhone, and Mac. ![]() Even its Wikipedia page needs several diagrams just to describe how the various parts relate to each other.Īnd perhaps it's not entirely UML that's the problem but rather the way it was used early on. Not only does UML feel like it's from another era but it also has a reputation for complexity. Do you map out the broad components or do you dive into the specific interactions between functions and objects? Uh, modeling language?Īnd then there's UML whose answer is to get as deep into the weeds as possible.įor many developers, architecture diagrams are synonymous with this visual language and the mid-90s rush to object oriented programming. For a civil engineering project, there are well understood standards. Use other ways to describe it and you can easily introduce entropy, where the diagram gradually diverges from reality.Įven if there is an architecture diagram, it can be hard to get the level of resolution right. That's because code isn't like a building. Attempts at describing codebases have often been imperfect. Part of the answer is to do with history. So, why does it feel uncomfortably familiar for us as developers? Code should speak for itself, right? You'd be confused and, no doubt, you'd question the competence of everyone involved.īut, of course, this wouldn't really happen on a construction site. With that they advise you to start prodding around at what's already been built and then they leave for their next meeting. Then they show you a handful of hinges, a few pipe connectors, and an unopened bag of cement. They start by telling you that it's a steel frame building with precast panels on the exterior. You join a construction project as a contractor and the construction manager gets you up to speed. ![]() ![]() So, then, why aren't they a core part of every software development project? Why are software architecture diagrams important? Outward communication: they're easily consumed by non-hands-on stakeholders.Collaboration: they make it easier to onboard new developers and to work across different parts of a large codebase.Coherent vision: they provide a clear statement of direction and of decisions made. There are three core reasons why architecture diagrams make sense for even moderately sized codebases: ![]() ![]() Auto-tiles are also a bit more complex in that they can be broken into 16x16 mini-tiles for the editor to interpret correctly. My other questions are just practical ones - are columns 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 5, 6, 7, and 8 all interpreted differently? 1 and 2 are consistent patterns regardless, but 3 and 4 have rugs with borders, and 5-8 can be layered on top of other ground tiles. But if there's some method that allows me to change the default A2 3x2 format into 3x3, I'd love to know! If it's impossible, I can just re-draw the first couple patterns, no worries. That being said, the way A2 sets are interpreted may just be built into the VX ACE engine and can't be changed. Squeezing the alternating patterns into two tiles looks cluttered and sloppy, so I'd rather not if I can avoid it. I ask because the ground I've sketched for my A2 set has much more variety - meaning, I can't have a repeating auto-tile that's only two tiles wide because the ground I've sketched has three separate components across. I've isolated the first section below in its typical 3x2 format, and expanded it by one more tile to make it 3x3 to help visualize my first question - is it possible to create an A2 section that can be interpreted as 3x3 rather than 3x2? In the screenshot below, I took the default Interior_A2 and applied a 32x32 grid, then labeled each pattern section with a blue number. I'm currently sketching my A2 set, so I want to know - A2 source files are interpreted in 3x2 (row x column) sections. Set A performs differently than Sets B-E in that Set A houses animated tiles (source file A1) and auto-tiles (source files A2, A3, and A4) split into particular columns with specific behaviors according to mode type (area or field), plus one normal set (source file A5), but Sets B-E are mainly decorative and render as the top layer on the game map, right?Īnd to break down Set A -> A1 = animated tiles, A2 = ground tiles, A3 = building tiles, A4 = wall tiles, A5 = normal tiles, yes? To my understanding, the default interior A2 set is 16x12 tiles long, which equates to 512x384 total pixels since each individual tile is 32x32 pixels. After reviewing the VX ACE manual for all its available info on tilesets, I exported the default interior A2 tileset from VX ACE to check my dimensions. I'm currently in the midst of creating my custom tilesets, and I wanted to clarify several things before I went through the effort of painting, as any miscalculations on my part will effectively off-set the remainder of the pattern in the map editor. Hello! I'm back again with another question - this time regarding the function of the Set A tileset. To fully describe a rotation, it is necessary to specify the angle of rotation, the direction, and the point it has been rotated about.(x,y)\rightarrow (−x,−y)\). To understand rotations, a good understanding of angles and rotational symmetry can be helpful. A clockwise direction means turning in the same direction as the hands of a clock. Notice that all three components are included in this transformation statement. and a multiple of 90° (90°, 180° or 270°) is used. A rotation transformation is a rule that has three components: For example, we can rotate point (A) by (90°) in a clockwise direction about the origin. Mathopolis: Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q5 Q6 Q7 Q8 Q9 Q10. 2) Draw the rotations from each part of Question 1. The center of rotation for each is (0,0). 1) Predict the direction of the arrow after the following rotations. Example: to say the shape gets moved 30 Units in the 'X' direction, and 40 Units in the 'Y' direction, we can write: (x,y) (x+30,y+40) Which says 'all the x and y coordinates become x+30 and y+40'. Then describe the symmetry of each letter in the word. or anti-clockwise close anti-clockwise Travelling in the opposite direction to the hands on a clock. Sometimes we just want to write down the translation, without showing it on a graph. Rotations can be clockwise close clockwise Travelling in the same direction as the hands on a clock. We will rotate our original figures 90 degrees clockwise (red figure) and 180 degrees (blue figure) about the origin (point O). This makes sense because a translation is simply like taking something and moving it up and. For the rotation transformation, we will focus on two rotations. lines are taken to lines and parallel lines are taken to parallel lines. This point can be inside the shape, a vertex close vertex The point at which two or more lines intersect (cross or overlap). We found that translations have the following three properties: line segments are taken to line segments of the same length angles are taken to angles of the same measure and. When describing the direction of rotation, we use the terms clockwise and counter clockwise. Rotations can be described in terms of degrees (E.g., 90 turn and 180 turn) or fractions (E.g., 1/4 turn and 1/2 turn). Rotation about the origin at 180 : R180 (x, y) ( x, y) about the origin at 270. When describing a rotation, we must include the amount of rotation, the direction of turn and the center of rotation. Reflection (mirror image of an object) Rotation (about a point on the object or an externally located object) We will now discuss each of these types of transformations in more detail along with some examples. ![]() ![]() In other words, switch x and y and make y negative. If P (x, y) is a point that must be rotated 180 degrees about the origin, the coordinates of this point after the rotation will only be of the opposite signs of the original coordinates. Rotation - The image is the preimage rotated around a fixed point 'a turn.'. Reflection - The image is a mirrored preimage 'a flip.'. In addition, pdf exercises to write the coordinates of the graphed images (rotated shapes) are given here. The most common rotations are 180 or 90 turns, and occasionally, 270 turns, about the origin, and affect each point of a figure as follows: Rotations About The Origin 90 Degree Rotation When rotating a point 90 degrees counterclockwise about the origin our point A (x,y) becomes A' (-y,x). One of the simplest and most common transformations in geometry is the 180-degree rotation, both clockwise and counterclockwise. There are five different transformations in math: Dilation - The image is a larger or smaller version of the preimage 'shrinking' or 'enlarging.'. retains its size and only its position is changed. Rotation about the origin at 90 : (R90 (x, y) ( y, x) about the origin at 180. There are three types of congruence transformations: Translation (up, down, left, right), such as sliding a piece of paper on a tabletop.
